Senior Backend Engineer (CVS Team)
About On The Spot
About the team
Orca Security is a cloud security platform built for engineers who care about visibility, context, and speed. Founded in 2019 by former Check Point leaders, Orca has raised $630M+ and reached unicorn status in 2021.
Orca's platform scans the entire cloud environment - AWS, Azure, GCP, and more - and surface what actually matters by prioritizing findings on real-world context: exposure, privilege, and potential impact. Cloud teams choose Orca because it deploys fast, scales with real infrastructure, and stays out of the way.
The Cloud Vendor team is where Orca meets the cloud providers. We own everything that connects a customer's cloud to the Orca platform: account onboarding and permissions, the API clients for AWS, Azure, GCP and beyond, cloud resource discovery, and the lifecycle of every scan resource we create and clean up in customer environments. When Orca adds support for a new cloud provider, region type, or resource family — that journey starts and ends with us.
About the role
As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Cloud Vendor team, you will play a pivotal role in expanding and fortifying cloud coverage in Orca.
You'll own tasks end to end — from clarifying requirements through design, implementation, delivery, and monitoring in production. AI tooling is a first-class part of how we engineer here, and we expect you to help push that bar higher.
At Orca, we believe that in the right environment and with the right team, talent has no boundaries. This team spirit, together with our drive to always aim high (because the cloud is the limit), have quickly turned us into a global cloud security innovation leader.

Responsibilities
- Take a new cloud provider or service from zero to fully scanned: design the onboarding flow, build the API client, model the discovered resources, and watch the first customer assets appear in the product.
- Evolve our discovery engine that inventories customer cloud environments — millions of cloud assets across thousands cloud accounts daily — and keep it fast, cheap, and invisible to the customer.
- Harden the scan-resource lifecycle: everything Orca temporarily creates in a customer's cloud must be tracked, cost-efficient, and guaranteed to be cleaned up — at scale, across every provider's quirks, rate limits, and failure modes.
- Diagnose the hard cases: an API that throttles differently in one region, an account hierarchy that syncs incorrectly, a permission model that changes under our feet — and ship the fix to production yourself.
Requirements
- 5+ years of backend development experience. Our codebase is mainly Python, but strong experience in any language translates well.
- Hands-on experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP) — you've built against their APIs, not just deployed to them.
- Experience designing data-intensive systems. Our pipelines are concurrent, rate-limited, and failure-prone by nature, so you should be comfortable reasoning about concurrency, idempotency, and partial failure.
- A track record of taking complex, ambiguous problems from requirements to a monitored production solution.
- Genuine enthusiasm for AI as part of the modern engineering workflow — we use it daily and want you to make us better at it.
Nice to have
- Experience with more than one cloud provider
- Kubernetes and Helm
- IaC (Terraform or similar)
